Samra Blend Vol. 1

Whole Bean Coffee Blends

Created with Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and his mother, Samra, this blend is a glimpse into their lives. Through their taste and guidance, we created a flavor profile that resembles the coffee used in a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony (Buna Tetu) that they performed regularly as a family. Notes of juicy raspberry and citrus meld with rich caramel and a floral aroma to whisk you away to an Ethiopia that lives in Samra’s memory and was passed down to Abel.

Taste their creation and share in a special piece of Abel’s childhood.

"I remember coming home to the smell of coffee roasting in the kitchen and the chatter of family catching up in the living room. The Buna Tetu coffee ceremony was a special piece of our culture my mother would share with our guests, and I realize, now that I’m older, it’s synonymous with home for me.

Coming Together

The Art of Blending

Blending is where our artistry takes shape. With the world’s best coffee as our medium and the cup as our canvas, we follow inspiration. For this blend, we chose two Ethiopian coffees from METAD—one washed, one natural processed. We explored and experimented with roasting until the basic elements came together to create something beyond coffee—a feeling, a memory, an experience, a taste of home.

Serge Attukwei Clottey

Serge Attukwei Clottey and his multidisciplinary practice were brought to us by Abel, a long-time admirer. Clottey uses found materials to create zero-waste art pieces. Here he depicts a stoic mother and son in traditional Ethiopian clothing. His work for Samra Origins is a representation of the country’s storied past, its bright future, and the people who hold Ethiopia in their hands.
