Blue Bottle x Jin Akihiro White Coffee-Glazed Jincup
Kagoshima-based woodworker Jin Akihiro came together with the local ceramicists at One Kiln to create the unique design for our limited-edition Coffee-Glazed Jincup. Inspired by Jin’s wood-carved drinkware, these cups are textured by the handmade mold and hand-poured mud casting so every cup is unique. They’re then finished with a matte glaze made from daily discarded Blue Bottle coffee grounds.
Each Jincup is its own unique representation of Japanese ceramics.

The Nature of Individuality
Using One Kiln’s traditional technique, these cups are mud-cast by turning the clay into a less viscous texture and pouring it into a mold. It is then spilled until it reaches the proper thickness. Each Jinup varies in thickness and shape depending on how the mud is cut when spilled and the duration of the spilling. This process embodies Jin Akihiro’s philosophy of “forming irregular shapes'' and gives the cup a natural character.
